Are you Turning 65 soon?
If you are already getting Social Security benefits then you’ll AUTOMATICALLY get Medicare A & B when you’re first eligible at 65 and you won’t need to apply. Your Medicare card should arrive 4-6 weeks before you turn 65.
If you are NOT yet getting Social Security benefits then you MUST APPLY for Medicare A & B. You can apply online for Medicare A & B starting 3 months before you turn 65. In some special cases, you may have to apply in person at the local Social Security office.
- Typically Medicare A & B will start on the 1st day of the month that you turn 65. (i.e. Turn 65 on April 15th then Medicare starts April 1st)
- If your 65th birthday is on the 1st day of the month, then Medicare will start a month prior on the 1st. (i.e. Turn 65 on June 1st then Medicare starts May 1st)
Over 65 and already have Part A but need Part B?
If you chose to delay Medicare Part B when you were first eligible because you had creditable coverage and now you want to get Medicare Part B, you may be eligible for a Special Enrollment Period (SEP) and typically you will have to apply in person at the local Social Security office for Medicare Part B benefits.
You will be required to submit proper forms to the Social Security office. We have easy access to these forms for you, to save you time and speed up the enrollment process!
