United American Insurance Company Medicare Supplement Plans: A Detailed Guide

United American Insurance Company is a leading provider of health insurance solutions. A trusted name in Medicare, the company was one of the first providers of Medicare Supplement plans when the federal government introduced them in 1966.

But with several United American Insurance Medicare Supplement Plans, how do you know which one is right for you? We’ll explore some of their popular plans, delving into what they cover to help you pick a plan fit for your circumstances.

United American Medicare Insurance Plans

There are three types of Medicare insurance provided by private insurance companies contracted by the federal government to offer Medicare: Medicare Advantage plans (Medicare Part C), Medicare Part D (prescription drug plans), and Medicare Supplement Insurance (Medigap). United American Insurance only provides the latter. It doesn’t offer Medicare Part C or D plans.

Medicare Supplement Insurance plans plug the holes in Original Medicare (Part A and B). While Medicare offers decent coverage, it doesn’t entirely cover costs such as deductibles, copays, or coinsurance. United American medicare insurance offsets these out-of-pocket costs, relieving the financial burden of medical expenses.

Popular United American Insurance Medicare Supplement Plans

United American offers nine out of the ten Medicare Supplement Insurance plans, though options vary by state. Here are some of the popular United American insurance medicare supplement plans the company offers:

  • Medigap Plan A and B

Medigap Plan A and B’s basic coverage might suit you if you don’t visit the doctor often and shudder at the thought of unexpected medical bills. Both plans offer coverage for the following:
Medicare Part A coinsurance and hospitalization
Medicare Part B coinsurance or copayment
Blood transfusion (up to the first three pints per year)
Part A hospice care or coinsurance
However, Plan B comes with one extra perk. It covers the Medicare Part A deductible for extra peace of mind during inpatient hospital stays.

  • Medigap Plan C and D

Medigap Plans C and D offer broader coverage than Plans A and B. If you visit in-network doctors and health providers relatively often and require extra benefits beyond the basic coverage Plan A and B offer, you might want to consider one of these plans. Both plans provide coverage for the following:
Medicare Part A coinsurance and hospital stays
Medicare Part B coinsurance or copayment
Blood transfusion (up to the first three pints yearly)
Part A hospice care or coinsurance
    Skilled nursing facility (SNF) coinsurance
    Medicare Part A deductible
Foreign travel emergency coverage (up to plan limits)
However, Plan C comes with an additional benefit. It covers the Medicare Part B deductible, while Plan D doesn’t. Additionally, Plan C isn’t available to individuals who first became eligible for Medicare on or after January 1 2020.

  • Medigap Plan F and G

Medigap Plan F and G are the best of the best when it comes to coverage. Both plans cover everything in Plan C, plus Medicare Part B excess charges. These charges are the amount some doctors and health providers who don’t accept Medicare charge clients. It’s usually up to 15% more than the Medicare-approved rate. So, if you want comprehensive coverage and want to visit out-of-network healthcare providers, Plan F or G might suit you.
However, Plan F covers the Medicare Part B deductible, while Plan G doesn’t. Similarly to Plan C, Plan F is being phased out. So, if you want comprehensive coverage and first become eligible for Medicare on or after January 1 2020, you can’t sign up for the plan.
