United American Medicare Supplement Plan G: What You Need to Know

A pillar of the insurance sector for nearly 80 years, United American Insurance has been a trusted provider of Medicare Supplement insurance since 1966.

United American Medicare Supplement Plan G is one of the insurer’s most popular offerings, thanks to its excellent coverage. Here, we’ll explore what the plan covers, what it doesn’t cover, and key factors to consider before signing up for the plan.

What Is United Healthcare Medicare Plan G?

When it comes to Medicare Supplement plans, United Healthcare Medicare Plan G is one of the best. The plan offers the most comprehensive coverage, second only to Medicare Supplement Plan F.

What Does United American Insurance Plan G Cover?

United American Insurance Plan G covers many of the costs Original Medicare doesn’t cover. Here’s what Part G covers:

  • Part A coinsurance and hospitalization costs: Plan G covers Part A coinsurance and inpatient costs for hospital stays for an additional 365 days after Medicare benefits are exhausted. This means you won’t have to pay out-of-pocket for your hospital stay for up to a year after Medicare coverage runs out.
  • Part B coinsurance or copays: Plan G covers medical expenses for doctor’s appointments, outpatient care, and preventive services.
  • Part A hospice care coinsurance or copays: Plan G will pay for your care if you have a terminal illness and require hospice care.
  • Skilled nursing facility care: While Original Medicare covers skilled nursing facility (SNF) care for the first 100 days, United American Insurance Plan G fills the gap, covering the entire cost of SNF coinsurance for stays beyond 100 days.
  • Part A deductible: Medicare Part A has a deductible you must pay if admitted to a Medicare facility. United American Insurance Plan G covers the entire cost of the Part A deductible, potentially saving you thousands of dollars.
  • Part B excess charges: Excess charges are the additional amount some doctors or healthcare providers who don’t accept Medicare rates can bill you. These charges can be up to 15% more than the Medicare-approved amount. Medicare Plan G covers excess charges, protecting you from unexpected medical bills.
  • Foreign emergency travel coverage: United American Insurance Plan G covers 80% of the cost of emergency treatment received outside the United States, giving you peace of mind while overseas.

  • What Does United American Plan G Not Cover?

While United American Plan G offers reasonably comprehensive coverage, it has some limitations. The plan doesn’t cover the Medicare Part B deductible. It also doesn’t cover prescription drugs and dental, vision, and hearing care.
Is United American Plan G Ideal for You?
United American medicare Supplement Plan G offers the most comprehensive coverage after Plan F. So if you recently became eligible for Medicare, don’t qualify for Medicare Plan F, and want a Plan that offers somewhat similar coverage, you won’t find an option better than Plan G.
