WHAT IS MEDICARE PART B

Medicare has several parts categorized with letters A, B, C, and D. Medicare Part B is another of the four components of the federal government health insurance program for seniors and other eligible persons.

If you have ever asked yourself, ‘How do I get Medicare Part B?’ or want to know, ‘How do I apply for Medicare Part B?’ then you have come to the right place. Here at Medicare Sharks, we are dedicated to informing you about Medicare Part B and how to apply for and get Medicare Part B.

Like Part A, Medicare Part B is Part of the Original Medicare Plan. Medicare Part B is a voluntary program that requires monthly premium payments for all benefits that one is receiving in the coverage.

WHAT IS NOT COVERED BY MEDICARE PART B?

Your needs for dental, vision, or hearing are not covered by your Medicare Part B insurance nor are your prescription drugs. Anything deemed medically unnecessary will not be covered by Medicare Part B. Inpatient services are covered by Medicare Part A rather than Medicare Part B.

  • HOW TO GET MEDICARE PART B

If you are already receiving Social Security or Railroad Retirement Board (RRB) benefits at least four months before the age of 65 and are residing in the U.S. (except Puerto Rico), you are automatically enrolled in premium-free Part A and Part B Medicare. As Part B is voluntary, you can decide to keep or drop it.

On the other hand, automatic enrollment does not apply to individuals who don’t receive Social Security or RRB benefits. Eligibility requirements for Part B depend on whether a person is eligible for premium-free Part A or has to pay a premium for Part A coverage.

You can get Medicare Part B if you have Part A but not Part B. You can apply for Medicare Part B during the Initial Enrollment Period (IEP). If you skipped Part B during the IEP and want it later, you can take advantage of the General Enrollment Period or Special Enrollment Period to get Medicare Part B.

  • MEDICARE PART B COSTS

Medicare Part B, like most insurances, requires you to pay a monthly premium. How much you will be paying depends on your income level. If you are on social security, your Medicare Part B premium will be automatically deducted from your monthly check. If you do not receive social security, you will be billed quarterly. You will also be responsible for copays and an annual deductible.

All of this can be very confusing.
